Type the beat you hear in your head (genre, tempo, drums, mood) and SongUp’s AI beat maker produces a full instrumental. Write over it, sample it, use it under a video or take it into your DAW as a starting point.
Add “instrumental, no vocals” to your prompt to keep the voice out. Then split the beat into stems, check its key and BPM, or turn the melody into MIDI with the tools linked below.
How to make a beat with AI
Step 1
Name the genre and BPM
Tempo anchors everything else. The tempo guide below covers the common styles.
Step 2
Describe the drums and bass
808s or a live bass? Swung or straight hi-hats? Dusty samples or clean electronic drums? The drums are what make a beat feel like its genre.
Step 3
Add a melody and a mood
A dark piano loop, a bright synth pluck, a guitar riff or a vocal chop, plus a mood word such as “menacing”, “hopeful” or “hazy”.
Step 4
Keep vocals out
Write “instrumental, no vocals” in the prompt. You can also add “vocals” under Exclude in the Advanced settings.

Frequently asked questions
Can I sell or release beats made with AI?
Beats made on paid plans include commercial rights, so you can use them in released music and monetised content. Read the Terms of Service before selling beats to other artists, especially on exclusive licences.
Does the beat follow my BPM exactly?
The engines treat BPM as strong guidance, but the result can drift. Run the file through Chord Recognition to confirm the tempo and key before you record over it.
Can I get stems of the beat?
Yes. The Stem Separator splits the beat into drums, bass and other parts as WAV files, and it runs in your browser.
Can I export MIDI?
SongUp generates audio. Use Audio to MIDI to convert a melody or bassline into a MIDI file; it works best on a single clear part, such as a stem you split out first.
How is this different from the background music generator?
