About the Song Key & BPM Finder
By Ismail Farooq, founder of SongUp AI · Facts checked 27 October 2026
Completely free: free account, no card needed, no credits, no limit. It runs in your browser, so your audio stays on your device.
The SongUp AI Key & BPM Finder listens to a song and tells you its musical key (for example A minor), its tempo in beats per minute, its Camelot wheel code for harmonic DJ mixing and its relative key.
It uses the same analysis as our Chord Finder: a chromagram of the whole song is matched against major and minor key profiles, and the tempo comes from the rhythm of the note onsets. Everything runs in your browser, so the song is never uploaded.
Tempo detectors can report half or double the tempo a person would tap, so the result also shows half time and double time. For songs that change key, the result is the key the song spends most time in.
What you can use it for
- ✓DJs mixing in key with the Camelot wheel
- ✓Singers checking whether a song suits their range
- ✓Producers setting a project to the right tempo before sampling
- ✓Musicians learning a song by ear

Frequently asked questions
What key is this song in, and what is its BPM?
+
Drop the song into the finder above. In a few seconds it shows the key (for example A minor), the tempo in BPM with half-time and double-time readings, the Camelot code and the relative key. It works on MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG and MP4 files, and the song never leaves your device.
How accurate is it?
+
On most pop, rock, hip-hop and dance songs the key and tempo are right. Songs that change key, have no clear tonal centre or use free tempo are harder; the result is then the most likely single key and tempo.
What is the Camelot number?
+
A code from the Camelot wheel that DJs use for harmonic mixing. Songs with the same number, or one step apart (8A, 7A, 9A, 8B), mix together without clashing.
Why does it say 70 BPM when the song feels like 140?
+
Half time and double time are both valid readings of the same beat. The result shows both; pick the one that matches how you count it.
Does it show the chords too?
+
This page shows the key and tempo. For every chord change over time, use the free Chord Finder.
Is it really free?
+
Yes. It is completely free, with a free account: no limit and no watermark. It runs in your browser, so your audio stays on your device.
