How to make a rap song with AI
Step 1
Pick the style and tempo
Name the sub-genre and a BPM. Boom bap sits around 85–95 BPM, trap and drill around 140 BPM with a half-time feel, lo-fi hip hop around 70–90.
Step 2
Describe the voice and flow
Say who is rapping and how: a gritty male voice with a fast, punchy flow, or a laid-back female voice that half-sings the hook.
Step 3
Give the verse a subject
A clear topic (“working night shifts to pay for my first album”) gives the auto-written lyrics something real to say. On Pro you can paste your own bars instead.
Step 4
Generate, listen, change one thing
If the drums are right but the flow isn’t, keep the prompt and change only the delivery words. Small edits make it easier to hear what each word does.

- Keep lines short and similar in length. Four to eight lines per verse is plenty.
- End rhymes are the easiest to hear; internal rhymes work best with short words.
- Give the hook its own section and repeat it word for word each time.
- Write numbers the way they should be said: “twenty-four seven”, not “24/7”.
- Describe the sound instead of naming a real artist. “Raspy voice, triplet flow” gives you more control than a name anyway.
Generate a few takes before rewriting
Every SongUp song is composed by Google’s Lyria 3 Pro model, and no two generations are the same, even from an identical prompt. If a result is close but not right, generate it again before you rewrite the prompt; the flow or hook you want may be one take away.
After the track is made

Frequently asked questions
Can AI write rap lyrics for me?
Yes. Leave the lyrics empty and the engine writes a verse and hook from your prompt, so put the topic and mood in the prompt. You can also draft bars with the AI Chat assistant in the Create studio and refine them yourself.
Can I use my own bars?
Yes, on Pro and higher plans. Paste them into the lyrics box and describe the beat and delivery in the prompt. Custom lyrics aren’t available on the free plan.
Can I make just the beat without vocals?
Yes. Add “instrumental, no vocals” to your prompt. The AI Beat Maker page has prompts written for beats.
Can I rap in languages other than English?
Songs can be made in English, Hindi, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Korean and Portuguese. Choose the language under Advanced in the Create studio.
Can I release an AI rap song on Spotify or YouTube?
Songs made on paid plans include commercial rights, so you can release and monetise them. Free-plan songs are for non-commercial use with attribution.
