Green Mountain Morning

Prompt

Quiet New England folk with fingerpicked acoustic guitar, cello, light piano and a tender, hushed chorus. An anthem for the US state of Vermont, proud, warm, radio quality, clear English diction. [Vocals: female lead vocal] [Lyrics] [Verse 1] Steam off a sugar shack in March, the buckets on the trees A hermit thrush at evening and red clover in the breeze White steeples over little towns where everybody's known Vermont, you're the gentle place I've always called my own [Chorus] Green Mountain morning, freedom and unity From Lake Champlain to Brattleboro, from Stowe down to the sea of trees Covered bridges, maple gold, a hillside turning red Vermont, you're the quiet that I carry in my head [Verse 2] Burlington at sunset with the Adirondacks across the lake First snow on Mount Mansfield and the skiers wide awake A town meeting in the schoolhouse, cider warm in hand Vermont, you're the small and mighty land [Chorus] Green Mountain morning, freedom and unity From Lake Champlain to Brattleboro, from Stowe down to the sea of trees Covered bridges, maple gold, a hillside turning red Vermont, you're the quiet that I carry in my head [Bridge] Fourteen years a free republic before you joined the rest Vermont, you're the independent at your best [Chorus] Green Mountain morning, freedom and unity From Lake Champlain to Brattleboro, from Stowe down to the sea of trees Covered bridges, maple gold, a hillside turning red Vermont, you're the quiet that I carry in my head
