About the Bass Tuner Online (Microphone)

By Ismail Farooq, founder of SongUp AI · Facts checked 27 October 2026

Completely free: use it right away with no sign-up, no card, no credits and no limit. A free account is asked only when you download a file. It runs in your browser, so your audio stays on your device.

The online Bass Tuner listens through your microphone and shows the nearest string, its frequency and how many cents sharp or flat you are. Within ±5 cents it turns green. It works the moment you press Start, with no sign-up.

Choose standard 4-string (E1 A1 D2 G2), 5-string with a low B (B0, 31 Hz), drop D, half step down or chromatic mode. It reads a longer slice of sound than the guitar tuner, so it can follow the low strings. Tap a string to hear its note, and set A4 if your band tunes to 432 or 442 Hz.

Pitch is detected on your device. The sound is analysed live and never recorded or sent anywhere.

What you can use it for

  • ✓Tune an electric or acoustic bass without a pedal tuner
  • ✓Tune a 5-string bass with a low B
  • ✓Drop D or half step down for heavier songs
  • ✓Tune by ear with the reference notes

Frequently asked questions

How do I tune my bass online?

+

Press Start tuning and allow the microphone. Play one string at a time and let it ring. If the needle is left of centre, tighten the string; right of centre, loosen it, until the note turns green.

What are the notes of the bass strings?

+

In standard 4-string tuning, from the thickest string: E1, A1, D2, G2, one octave below the lowest four strings of a guitar. A 5-string adds a low B0 below the E.

The microphone doesn’t pick up my low strings. What can I do?

+

Phone and laptop microphones hear little below about 50 Hz, and the low E is 41 Hz (the low B 31 Hz). Play through an amp, hold the bass close to the microphone, or play the harmonic at the 12th fret and tune it in Chromatic mode: it reads one octave up (E2 for the E string).

What is drop D on bass?

+

The E string is tuned down a whole step to D (D A D G), for heavier riffs. Choose Drop D above.

Can I tune an unplugged electric bass?

+

Yes, in a quiet room with the bass close to the microphone. An amp makes it easier.

Is it really free?

+

Yes. It is completely free: use it right away with no sign-up, no limit and no watermark. A free account is asked only when you download a file. It runs in your browser, so your audio stays on your device.
