About the Note Finder: Online Pitch Detector
By Ismail Farooq, founder of SongUp AI · Facts checked 27 October 2026
Completely free: use it right away with no sign-up, no card, no credits and no limit. A free account is asked only when you download a file. It runs in your browser, so your audio stays on your device.
The Note Finder listens through your microphone and shows the note you sing, hum, whistle or play, its frequency in hertz, and how many cents sharp or flat you are. Within ±10 cents the note turns green.
Each note you hold is added to a trail; tap any of them to hear it. After a few notes it guesses the key of your melody (for example A minor), so you can find chords or a backing track for a tune in your head.
It hears 50 Hz to 2,000 Hz, so it follows voices and most instruments. Pitch is detected on your device; nothing is recorded or uploaded.
What you can use it for
- ✓Find the notes of a melody in your head
- ✓Check whether you sing in tune
- ✓Work out the key of a tune you hum
- ✓Identify a note from an instrument, a whistle or a hum
Frequently asked questions
What note am I singing?
+
Press Start listening, allow the microphone and sing a steady note. The note name (such as A4) appears at once, with its frequency and how many cents off you are. Green means within ±10 cents.
What are cents?
+
A cent is a hundredth of a semitone. Minus cents means you are flat (a little low), plus cents sharp (a little high). Most listeners notice about 10 to 20 cents.
Can it find the key of a song?
+
It guesses the key of the notes you held, from how long you sang each one. Sing more of the melody for a surer answer. For a song file, the Key & BPM Finder reads the key and tempo automatically.
Does it work with instruments?
+
Yes, with any instrument that plays one note at a time: voice, guitar or bass notes, violin, flute, whistling. Chords mix several notes, so it may show only the strongest.
Is my sound recorded?
+
No. The pitch is worked out live in your browser and nothing is saved or sent.
Is it free?
+
Yes, completely free, with no sign-up and no limit.
