Choose violin (G3 D4 A4 E5), viola (C3 G3 D4 A4), cello (C2 G2 D3 A3) or chromatic mode. Tap a string to hear its note, and set A4 to 442 Hz if your orchestra tunes higher, or 415 for baroque pitch.

Frequently asked questions
How do I tune my violin online?
+
Press Start tuning and allow the microphone. Bow or pluck one string at a time. If the needle is left of centre the string is flat (tighten it); right of centre it is sharp (loosen it), until the note turns green.
What are the notes of the violin strings?
+
From the lowest string: G3, D4, A4, E5. Tune the A first, then D, G and E.
Should I use the pegs or the fine tuners?
+
Use the fine tuners for small changes of a few cents. Use the pegs only when a string is far out, turning them gently while pushing the peg in so it holds. Turn slowly: strings can snap.
Can it tune a viola or cello?
+
Yes. Choose Viola (C G D A) or Cello (C G D A, an octave below the viola) above.
Should I tune to 440 or 442 Hz?
+
Most teachers and recordings use 440 Hz. Many orchestras tune to 442 Hz, and baroque groups to 415. Set A4 to match yours; the tuner and reference notes follow it.
Does it work on a phone?
+
Yes, in Chrome or Safari. Allow microphone access when asked.
Is it really free?
+
Yes. It is completely free: use it right away with no sign-up, no limit and no watermark. A free account is asked only when you download a file. It runs in your browser, so your audio stays on your device.
