You Cannot Stand Against the Waking Soul lyrics

“The kings were dancing while the harvest rotted, silver on their tables, and dust out in the fields. They wore the crown the way the morning wears the daylight —never asked the ground what the ground would yield. What they once clung to as treasure will fade like mist, the crown they wore became a mask across the eyes. They sat upon the throne and called themselves a shepherd, but a shepherd doesn't spend the sheep to feed the sky.”

This line uses the metaphor of kings dancing while the harvest rots to illustrate the rulers' indifference and extravagance in the face of their people's suffering and the land's neglect.

“And the people counted years the way you count in silence, seasons in the ledger of a patient, working hand.Every seed they buried deep was quietly a promise —every scar a sentence in a book they'd understand. Now the sleepers in them stretch, and shift, and open, the giants under morning turn their faces to the sun. They are gathering the strength they built so slowly, patiently —not a riot, not a ruin — just an audit of the sum.”

The 'audit of the sum' suggests a calm, deliberate reckoning rather than chaotic rebellion, implying a deep-seated, justified demand for accountability from the long-suffering populace.

“You cannot stand against the waking soul, for God is moving in the whole. The throne you borrowed, it was never yours to hold —and the gold you hoarded is turning into stone. When the truth awakens, justice starts to move, what is written comes to pass, and it will come to you.Not mere anger that you're facing, but a sacred, righteous waking —and it isn't even ours to lose.”

The phrase 'God is moving in the whole' implies that the awakening of the people is not just a human movement but a divinely ordained or universally aligned force, making it unstoppable.
