صندلی ہاتھ پہ دھندلی سی حنا کی تحریر

Sandali haath pe dhundli si hina ki tehreer

The faint script of henna on the sandalwood hand

اپنے افکار کی ، اشعار کی دنیا ہے یہی

Apne afkar ki, ash'ar ki duniya hai yehi

This is the world of my thoughts, my verses

جانِ مضموں ہے یہی ، شاہدِ معنی ہے یہی

Jaan-e-mazmoon hai yehi, shahid-e-ma'ani hai yehi

This is the essence of the subject, this is the witness to the meaning

آج تک سرخ و سیہ صدیوں کے سائے کے تلے

Aaj tak surkh-o-siyah sadiyon ke saaye ke tale

Until today, beneath the shadow of red and black centuries

آدم و حوا کی اولاد پہ کیا گزری ہے ؟

Adam-o-Hawwa ki aulaad pe kya guzri hai?

What has befallen the progeny of Adam and Eve?

موت اور زیست کی روزانہ صفِ آرائی میں

Maut aur zeest ki rozana saff-e-araai mein

In the daily array of death and life

ہم پہ کیا گزرے گی ، اجداد پہ کیا گزری ہے ؟

Hum pe kya guzregi, ajdad pe kya guzri hai?

What will happen to us, what happened to our ancestors?

ان دہکتے ہوئے شہروں کی فراواں مخلوق

In dehekte hue shehron ki farawan makhlooq

The abundant populace of these blazing cities

کیوں فقط مرنے کی حسرت میں جیا کرتی ہے ؟

Kyun faqat marne ki hasrat mein jiya karti hai?

Why does it only live with the longing to die?

یہ حسیں کھیت ، پھٹتا پڑتا ہے جوبن جن کا !

Yeh haseen khet, phat'ta padta hai jooban jin ka!

These beautiful fields, whose youth is bursting forth!

کس لئے ان میں فقط بھوک اُگا کرتی ہے

Kis liye in mein faqat bhook uga karti hai

Why does only hunger grow in them?

یہ ہر اک سمت پُراسرار کڑی دیواریں

Yeh har ek simt pur-asrar kadi deewaren

These mysterious strong walls in every direction

جل بجھے جن میں ہزاروں کی جوانی کے چراغ

Jal bujhe jin mein hazaron ki jawani ke chiragh

In which the lamps of thousands of youths have burned out
