Ihda' ila abtal Al-Ghudara

A dedication to the heroes of Al-Ghudara

قال مقتدى الزريقي في القولِ مِقداري

Qala Muqtada Al-Zuraiqi fi al-qawli miqdari

Muqtada Al-Zuraiqi said, in my words, my measure,

على أبطال الغودرة صُغتُ أشعاري

Ala abtal Al-Ghudara sughtu ash'ari

For the heroes of Al-Ghudara, I composed my poems.

يا سادةَ العزِ في شُمِ الذرا نزلوا

Ya sadat al-'izzi fi shumi al-dhura nazalu

O masters of glory, who descended from lofty peaks,

أهلُ الحميةِ.. من نارٍ ومن شاري

Ahl al-hamiyati.. min nari wa min shari

People of zeal, from fire and from buyers.

يا فخرَ الزريقة ومجدَ العِزِّ من قِدَمِ

Ya fakhra Al-Zuraiqa wa majda al-'izzi min qidami

O pride of Al-Zuraiqa and glory of honor from old,

يا من تَرَكتُم على التاريخِ كالألَمِ

Ya man taraktum ala al-tarikhi ka al-alami

O you who left on history like a pain,

إلى "عبده الشيخ" نُهدي وافرَ النغمِ

Ila "Abdo Al-Sheikh" nuhdi wafira al-naghami

To "Abdo Al-Sheikh" we dedicate abundant melodies,

شيخُ المشيخِ الذي بالفخرِ قد سامي

Shaikh al-mashayikhi alladhi bi al-fakhri qad sami

The sheikh of sheikhs, who has risen with pride.

أبطالُ الغودرة.. يا مَعدنَ الغِيرة

Abtal Al-Ghudara.. ya ma'dan al-ghirah

Heroes of Al-Ghudara.. O source of zeal,

يا رايةَ الحقِ في كُلِّ الميادينِ

Ya rayat al-haqqi fi kulli al-mayadini

O banner of truth in all fields.

يا شيخَنا "عبده" يا سيفاً له سيرة

Ya shaikhana "Abdo" ya saifan lahu sirah

O our Sheikh "Abdo", O sword with a history,

تاريخكم باقٍ.. فوقَ الشرايينِ

Tarikhukum baqin.. fawqa al-sharayiini

Your history remains.. above the veins.

الزريقي فخرنا والشيخُ قِبلتُنا

Al-Zuraiqi fakhruna wa al-shaikhu qiblatuna

Al-Zuraiqi is our pride, and the Sheikh is our Qibla,

يومَ الكريهةِ نادتنا وعزَّتُنا

Yawm al-karihati nadatna wa 'izzatuna

On the day of hatred, it called us, and our honor.

يا طيرَ الزريقة.. رِفْ في عالِ قِمَتِنا

Ya taira Al-Zuraiqa.. rif fi 'ali qimmatina

O bird of Al-Zuraiqa.. soar to our highest peak,

واحمل سلامي.. لأهلِ العزِّ والجاهِ

Wahmil salami.. li ahli al-'izzi wa al-jahi

And carry my greetings.. to the people of glory and prestige.

ثباتُكم كالجبالِ الشُمِ في عَطَلِ

Thabatukum ka al-jibali al-shumi fi 'atali

Your steadfastness is like the towering mountains in their idleness,

لا لا تَهابوا.. لظى الحربِ والجَدَلِ

La la tahabu.. ladha al-harbi wa al-jadali

Do not fear.. the flames of war and debate.

فالشيخُ عبده.. كريمُ الأصلِ والعملِ

Fa al-shaikhu Abdo.. karimu al-asli wa al-'amali

For Sheikh Abdo.. is noble in origin and deed,

يروي العطاشى.. من مَعينِ حِلمِهِ الصافي

Yarwi al-'atasha.. min ma'ini hilmihi al-safi

He quenches the thirsty.. from the spring of his pure wisdom.

يا هيبةَ الموقفِ في ساعةِ الضيقِ

Ya haibat al-mawqifi fi sa'at al-dhiiqi

O awe of the stance in times of distress,

يا شُعلةَ الضوءِ في عتمةِ الطريقِ

Ya shu'lat al-dhaw'i fi 'atamat al-tariiqi

O flame of light in the darkness of the path.

الغودرة.. عزٌّ ليسَ يغيبُ

Al-Ghudara.. 'izzun laysa yaghiibu

Al-Ghudara.. is glory that does not fade,

والزريقيُّ.. صرحٌ بِنَاهُ حبيبُ

Wa Al-Zuraiqiyyu.. sarhun binahu habiibu

And Al-Zuraiqi.. is a structure built by a beloved one.

مقتدى يغني.. واللحنُ يزدانُ

Muqtada yughanni.. wa al-lahnu yazdanu

Muqtada sings.. and the melody adorns,

في مدحِ قوماً.. بهم يزدهرُ الزمانُ

Fi madhi qawman.. bihim yazdahiru al-zamanu

In praise of a people.. by whom time flourishes.

أبطالُ غودرةٍ.. ما هابوا حِراباً

Abtal Ghudaratin.. ma habu hiraban

Heroes of Ghudara.. who did not fear spears,

هم الملوكُ.. ولو ضاقَتْ بهم آنُ

Hum al-muluku.. wa law dhaqat bihim an

They are the kings.. even if times were difficult for them.

يا "عبده الشيخ".. يا شمسَ المَكارمِ

Ya "Abdo Al-Sheikh".. ya shamsa al-makarimi

O "Abdo Al-Sheikh".. O sun of noble deeds,

يا من شَمَختم.. فوقَ كلِ العوالمِ

Ya man shamakhtum.. fawqa kulli al-'awalimi

O you who rose.. above all worlds.

يا عزوةَ الزريقة.. يا دُرعَ الحواكمِ

Ya 'azwat Al-Zuraiqa.. ya dur'a al-hawakimi

O pride of Al-Zuraiqa.. O shield of rulers,

إسمكُم مَحفورٌ.. في قلبِ وجداني

Ismukm mahfurun.. fi qalbi wijdani

Your name is engraved.. in the heart of my being.

أبطالُ الغودرة.. يا مَعدنَ الغِيرة

We will continue to sing of glories for ages,

فالشيخُ عبده.. قد أسسَ أركانا

Fa al-shaikhu Abdo.. qad assasa arkana

For Sheikh Abdo.. has established pillars.

مقتدى يروي.. ما كانَ وما كانا

Muqtada yarwi.. ma kana wa ma kana

Muqtada narrates.. what was and what will be,

عن عزِ قومٍ.. شادوا المجدَ عنوانا

An 'izzi qawmin.. shadu al-majda 'unwana

About the glory of a people.. who built glory as a title.

ختامُ القولِ.. يا أبطالَ مَرجِعنا

Khitam al-qawli.. ya abtal marji'na

The conclusion of the speech.. O heroes of our reference,

يا شيخَ عبده.. يا مَن بهِ طَمِعنا

Ya shaikha Abdo.. ya man bihi tami'na

O Sheikh Abdo.. O by whom we are ambitious.

دمتم فخراً.. ودمتم في مَنازلِنا

Dumtum fakhran.. wa dumtum fi manazilina

May you remain a pride.. and may you remain in our homes,

أبطالُ الغودرة.. يا رمزَ عِزتِنا
