قَالَ اَبُو لَيْثْ.. وَقْتِي بِالمَوَاجِعْ غْزَانِي

Qala Abu Laith.. waqti bil-mawaji' ghazani

Abu Laith said.. my time has invaded me with sorrows

وَالدَّقَايِقْ مِنْ اَحْشَائِهْ تِسَبِّبْ مَذَلَّهْ

Wal-daqayiq min ahsha'ih tisabbib madhallah

And the minutes from its depths cause humiliation

شَبَّ فِي دَاخِلِي جُرْحِي وَجُرْحِي دَعَانِي

Shabba fi dakhili jurhi wa jurhi da'ani

My wound flared up inside me, and my wound called me

وَانْتَزَعْ صُحْبَتِي قَلْبِي لِمَا قَدْ حَصَلْ لَهْ

Wantaza' suhbati qalbi lima qad hasal lah

And my heart snatched away my companionship for what happened to it

ذَلَّنِي جُرْحِي المَزْرُوعْ دَاخِلْ كِيَانِي

Dhullani jurhi al-mazru' dakhil kiyani

My planted wound within my being has humiliated me

وَاَصْبَحَتْ رَاحَتِي لَحْظَهْ رَدِيئَهْ مُمِلَّهْ

Wa asbahat rahati lahzah radi'ah mumillah

And my comfort has become a bad, boring moment

عَافَ صَدْرِي فُؤَادِي بِالقَسَاوَهْ جَفَانِي

Aafa sadri fu'adi bil-qasawah jafani

My heart abandoned my chest, it deserted me with cruelty

فُرْقِتِهْ مِنْ فِرَاقِ الخِلِّ ذِي عَافَ خِلَّهْ

Furqatih min firaq al-khill dhi 'afa khillah

Its separation is like the departure of a friend who abandoned his friend

غَابَ خِلِّي وَقَلْبِي غَابَ بِسُرْعِ ثَوَانِي

Ghaba khilli wa qalbi ghaba bisur'i thawani

My friend left, and my heart left in mere seconds

كَنْ مَحْبُوبِي الإِنْسَانَ وَالقَلْبَ ضِلَّهْ

Kan mahbubi al-insana wal-qalba dillih

As if my beloved was the human, and the heart his shadow

يَا جُرُوحَ الحَشَى.. مَحْبُوبْ قَلْبِي أَنَانِي

Ya juruh al-hasha.. mahbub qalbi anani

Oh wounds of the gut.. my heart's beloved is selfish

مَا رَحَمْ دَمْعَتِي ذِي نَالَتْ الحُزْنُ كُلَّهْ

Ma raham dam'ati dhi nalat al-huznu kullah

He did not pity my tear that received all the sorrow

أَسْهَرْ الَّيْلَ وَحْدِي بِالأَلَمْ فِي مَكَانِي

Ashar al-layla wahdi bil-alam fi makani

I stay up all night alone in pain in my place

وَاسْكِبْ الدَّمْعَ مِنْ عَيْنِي وَفِي الدَّمْعِ عِلَّهْ

Wa askub al-dam'a min 'ayni wa fi al-dam'i 'illah

And I pour tears from my eye, and in the tears is a sickness

قَبْلَ مَا يِعْلِنْ الهِجْرَانْ حُزْنِي كَسَانِي

Qabla ma yi'lin al-hijran huzni kasani

Before he announced the abandonment, sorrow clothed me

تَاهَتْ اَحْلَامِي الحِلْوَهْ عَلَى دَرْبِ غَفْلَهْ

Tahat ahlami al-hilwah 'ala darbi ghaflah

My sweet dreams got lost on the path of heedlessness

كُنْتْ اَنَا مُنْتَظِرْ.. قَبْلَ اِفْتِرَاقِهْ مَعَانِي

Kunt ana muntazir.. qabl iftiraqih ma'ani

I was waiting.. before his departure, for meanings

مِنْ شِفَايِفْ حَبِيبِ القَلْبِ بَسْمَهْ وَقُبْلَهْ

Min shifayif habib al-qalb basmah wa qublah

From the lips of my heart's beloved, a smile and a kiss

بَسْ شُفْتْ الأَلَمْ وَالحُزْنْ وَسْطَ النِّيَانِي

Bas shuft al-alam wal-huzn wasta al-niyani

But I saw pain and sorrow amidst the fires

زَعْزَعْ الهَمّ وَسْطَ الصَّدْرِ بَعْدِيْن رَحَلْ لَهْ

Za'za' al-hamm wasta al-sadr ba'din rahal lah

Worry shook inside my chest, then he left for it

صَمْتْ خِلِّي ذَبَحْ صَدْرِي وَعَجَمْ لِسَانِي

Samt khilli dhabah sadri wa 'ajam lisani

My friend's silence slaughtered my chest and tied my tongue

وَاَصْبَحَ الصَّبْرِ بَعْدَ الجُرْحِ يَخْتَارْ وَصْلَهْ

Wa asbaha al-sabri ba'da al-jurhi yakhtar waslah

And patience after the wound chose its connection

ذِي سِقَيْتِهْ جِبَاحَ الحُبِّ.. ظُلْمَهْ سِقَانِي

Dhi saqaytih jibah al-hubb.. zulmah saqani

The one I watered with cups of love.. he watered me with darkness

ذِي جَعَلْتِهْ لِقَلْبِي لُغْزْ مَا شُفْتْ حَلَّهْ

Dhi ja'altih liqalbi lughz ma shuft hallah

The one I made a riddle for my heart, I haven't seen its solution

مَنْ فِدَيْتِهْ بِرُوحِي مِنْ جَهَنَّمْ كَوَانِي

Man fadaytih biruhi min jahannam kawani

The one I sacrificed my soul for, from hell he burned me

قَامَ وَاخْتَارَ قَتْلِي بِالجَفَى قَبْلَ قَتْلَهْ

Qama wakhtara qatli bil-jafa qabl qatlah

He rose and chose to kill me with abandonment before his own death

مَسْتَطِيعْ اَفْرِقَهْ لَحْظَهْ فَبُعْدَهْ جِنَانِي

Mastati' afriqah lahzah fabu'duh jinani

I cannot be apart from him for a moment, for his distance is my madness

يَا زَمَانَ العَجَبْ اَرْجُوكْ بِاللهْ قُلْ لَهْ

Ya zaman al-'ajab arjuk billah qul lah

Oh wondrous time, I beg you by God, tell him

قَدْ عِشِقْتِهْ وَحَبَّيْتِهْ وَحُسْنِهْ سَبَانِي

Qad 'ishiqtih wa habbaytih wa husnih sabani

I have adored him and loved him, and his beauty captivated me

رُغْمَ هَذَا العَنَى بَاعِيشْ وَامُوتْ لَجْلَهْ

Rughma hadha al-'ana ba'ish wa amut lajlah

Despite this suffering, I will live and die for him

قَدْ عَطَيْتِهْ شُعُورِي.. طِيبَ قَلْبِي.. حَنَانِي

Qad 'ataytih shu'uri.. tayb qalbi.. hanani

I have given him my feelings.. the goodness of my heart.. my tenderness

يَا حَبِيبَ الهَوَى لَا غَابْ اَبُو لَيْثْ مَنْ لَهْ؟

Ya habib al-hawa la ghab Abu Laith man lah?

Oh beloved of passion, if Abu Laith is gone, who will he have?

رَاقِبِ اللهَ يَا مَحْبُوبْ وَارْجِعْ كَفَانِي

Raqib Allah ya mahbub warji' kafani

Fear God, my beloved, and come back, it's enough for me

مِنْ عَذَابِ الجَفَى ذِي حَطَّ قَلْبِي وَشَلَّهْ

Min 'adhab al-jafa dhi hatta qalbi wa shallah

From the torment of abandonment that has crushed and paralyzed my heart

أَيْنَ عَهْدِ الوَفَا ذِي مِنْ كَلَامَكْ دَهَانِي

Ayna 'ahd al-wafa dhi min kalamak dahani

Where is the covenant of loyalty that your words painted for me?

أَيْنَهَا التَّضْحِيَهْ حَتَّى وَلَوْ رُبْعِ خُصْلَهْ؟

Aynaha al-tadhiyah hatta walaw rub'i khuslah?

Where is the sacrifice, even if it's a quarter of a lock of hair?

أَيْنَ غِيْرَةْ زَمَانَكْ؟ لَا تِعَذِّبْ زَمَانِي

Ayna ghirat zamanak? La tu'adhdhib zamani

Where is the jealousy of your time? Don't torment my time

أَيْنَ وَرْدِ اِشْ
